APM personnel bit by spitting cobra now out of danger

KUANTAN: A Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel, who was bitten by a venomous snake on Saturday, has been moved from the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital's (HTAA) intensive care unit (ICU) to a normal ward.

District APM officer Captain (PA). Zaubidah Said said the personnel, Muhammad Amin Fikri Azhar, is recovering well and is now out of danger.

"He is no longer critical and can now speak. He has been moved out of the ICU and warded for further observation at the hospital's normal ward," she said when contacted today.

Amin Fikri was bitten by a snake at his house at about 9am on May 14. He was intubated and given anti-venom to counter the poison at HTAA's ICU.

It is learnt that Amin Fikri was bitten by an Indian spitting cobra, also known as a monocled cobra, on his hand before he collapsed at his home.

Details of the incident remain sketchy. It is alleged that Amin Fikri was off-duty and the snake had slithered into his house when he attempted to capture it.
