Kelantan admits it's hard to educate public on cleanliness, despite various efforts

KOTA BARU: The state government today acknowledged that it was hard to create awareness among Kelantanese on cleanliness.

State Local Government, Health and Housing Committee chairman Dr Izani Husin said despite various efforts introduced by the government to educate them on the issue, many still refuse to take care of the cleanliness.

"It is hard for the state government to change their attitude but this is our commitment and we will do our best to create awareness on cleanliness.

"We realise that this will be a long term issue and proper planning and improvement needs to be done to tackle the problem," he said at the Kelantan State Assembly today.

Dr Izani was replying to a question from Mohd Huzaimy Che Hussin (Pas-Pantai Irama).

He cited the cleanliness level among locals in Bachok especially at Irama Beach was still low.

"This prompted the state government to issue compounds to those who threw rubbish.

"We have introduced compounds in Bachok first as a pilot project, and placed many dustbins along the area. So, there shouldn't be a reason for them not to use the dustbins," he added.

Apart from that, Dr Izani said the state government would continue its collaboration with other relevant agencies to educate the public on the matter.

He added, the Kelantan government has allocated a RM7.3 million budget for various upgrading works, improving facilities in public places and campaign activities for cleanliness.
