Lorry driver and attendant believed to have been electrocuted to death

KUCHING: A lorry driver and his attendant were killed, believed from electrocution, when the heavy vehicle they were in burst into flames after coming into contact with an electrical cable at Jalan Semalau, Tanjung Manis in Mukah today.

The bodies of the victims who are yet to be identified, were found in the charred lorry.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operation centre spokesman said a distress call on the burning vehicle was received at 9.15am.

A team of six firemen from Tanjung Manis fire station were deployed to scene.

"Upon arriving at the scene, we found a lorry being engulfed in fire. The lorry was carrying an excavator that got entangled in an electrical cable.

"Two bodies were found in the lorry and they were believed to have been electrocuted.

"They were pronounced dead by the medical team at the scene," the spokesman said in a statement today.

The operation to remove the bodies were assisted by police and staff from Sarawak Energy Berhad.
