MIC vice-president clarifies: No resolution on Najib's release passed

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC has denied claims that it passed a resolution to release former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from prison if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the 15th General Election (GE15).

However, MIC vice-president Datuk T. Mohan admitted that his secretary had misinterpreted a speech made during the 76th MIC Annual General Assembly on Monday and apologised for the glitch.

"My secretary has issued an apology and hopes that media outlets could retract their previous reports on the matter.

"Najib's concerns and contributions for the Indian community during his tenure as the prime minister can never be denied.

"However, MIC respects the legal process and we hope that he will get his justice in accordance with the country's laws," he posted on Facebook yesterday.

Meanwhile, MIC Women's deputy chief Vickneswari Babuji stressed that the party only passed one resolution at Monday's general assembly.

The resolution was aimed to enable MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran and the party's Central Working Committee to make the necessary preparations for GE15.
