King tide phenomenon: Evacuees rise to 1,626 in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The number of victims affected by the king tide phenomenon in Sabah increased to 1,626 people as of 8am today.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said four districts are among those affected by the phenomenon.

"Pitas recorded the highest number of victims with a total of 745 victims, followed by Sandakan (684 victims), Kota Belud (143 victims) and Kota Kinabalu (54 victims)," it said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuation centres (PPS) opened to house the affected victims remained at 10.

"There are six PPS active in Pitas, namely Balai Raya Agropolitan Kampung Pinggan-Pinggan (277 people), Kampung Mempakad Hall (163 people), and Kampung Rosob Hall (156 people).

"Other than that, the other PPS are Kampung Luntuk SIB Church (79 people), SMK Pinggan-Pinggan (57 people) and Kampung Salimpodon Hall (13 people).

"Meanwhile, in Kota Belud, two PPS are operating, namely SJK (C) Chung Hwa (81 people) and SK Pekan (62 people).

"While Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan each with one active PPS, namely Dewan Muhibbah Sembulan (54 people) and SK Sungai Anib 2 (684 people)," the statement said.
