Christmas Day funicular disruption: PHC apologises to visitors

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) has apologised to all visitors affected by the funicular service disruption yesterday.

The funicular service encountered errors about 4pm and resumed operation at 6.45pm.

PHC, in a statement on its Facebook page, said: "Upon investigation, the PHC maintenance team found leaks on the track brake hose and it took some time to replace the part and power up the full system. The funicular service resumed at around 6.45 pm.

"PHC would like to thank all visitors for patience over the service disruption.

"We deeply regret and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused," it said.

PHC also expressed gratitude to the Penang Hill Residents Association's jeep service, bus service providers and police for their swift action in responding to the emergency.

"We also greatly appreciate the resident's and business operators' understanding and support.

"PHC wishes to emphasise that the funicular service and safety of our passengers are our utmost priority," it added.

It was reported that hundreds of visitors were left disappointed on Christmas Day after they could not use the funicular service.

Some claimed they had to wait for several hours to board the funicular service.

They also expressed dissatisfaction for not being told about the fault until they inquired about the long waiting time.
