KUALA LUMPUR: The Light Rail Transit (LRT) service on the Ampang-Sri Petaling route has been disrupted due to safety factors after track alignment was found to be kinked near the Bandaraya LRT Station.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) in a Facebook posting said preliminary checks found that the LRT service delay was caused by damage to the flyover structure carrying the rail tracks due to construction work adjacent to the area.
"Rapid Rail along with structural experts are in the area to assess and ensure the safety and strength of the structure,
"We decided to close the route between Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya stations until safety and stability can be ensured.
The statement added that the Ampang LRT service is being carried out at a reduced speed and will cause a delay of nine minutes in the central business district and 18 minutes outside the business district.
"Trains from Putra Heights will turn back at Plaza Rakyat while trains from Sentul Timur will turn back at the Bandaraya Station as well as shuttle services between Plaza Rakyat Station and Masjid Jamek.
"To accommodate passengers, alternative bus services have also been activated. Passengers can use buses with registration numbers WVH9594 and W7486Q to go to Plaza Rakyat Station from Bandaraya Station," the statement said.
For passengers heading to Bandaraya Station from Plaza Rakyat Station, they can use buses with registration numbers WUX5708 and WVC3984 while to go to Bandaraya Station from Sentul Timur they can utilise buses with registration numbers PJJ7149 and WUW1702 and passengers can also use bus with the registration number W3607T to go to Sentul Timur from Bandaraya Station.
Rapid Rail also said auxiliary police personnel have been deployed to the main station to control congestion.
