ALOR STAR: The repair works for 34 houses in Kampung Iboi, Baling, that were damaged by massive floods triggered by the water surge phenomenon last July, have been completed.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (Perikatan Nasional-Jeneri) told the State Legislative Assembly today that repair and renovation works for the remaining 16 houses were expected to be completed by Thursday.
"As for victims who lost their homes, the construction of 12 new homes under phase 1 of the project has reached 43 per cent as of Jan 30, 2023.
"As for the 17 units under the Phase 2 in Bukit Batu Kawi, under the Kupang subdistrict in Baling, it is still in the process of land acquisition," Sanusi said in response to a question from Opposition leader Datuk Zamri Yusuf (Pakatan Harapan-Suka Menanti).
Sanusi added that the RM3 million allocation for phases 1 and 2 were funded by the state government and the federal government.
As for the victims of the water surge phenomenon in Gunung Jerai, Yan, Sanusi said the repair works for 55 houses have been completed.
In a related matter, the state Public Works, Water Supply and Water Resources, Irrigation and Drainage and Energy Committee Chairman Mohamad Yusoff Zakaria (PN-Kuala Nerang) told the House that the RM15 million Phase 1 of the flood mitigation project (RTB) in Baling would start by early next year.
