RTD: 2.97 million users have downloaded the MyJPJ app

KOTA BARU: A total of 2.971 million users have downloaded the Road Transport Department's MyJPJ application since it was launched in February.

RTD director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim said it is always increasing efforts to promote the app for the convenience of the community.

"MyJPJ is an app, and everyone is aware that our (driving) licence will no longer be in a physical form, but instead will be in digital form.

"However, currently we only have the display (function on the app) because the renewals of licences and road taxes (functions) will only begin in the middle of this year. We are now only having the display feature to allow the public to familiarise themselves with MyJPJ digital platform.

"So far, a total of 2.971 million users have signed up and we hope that by the middle of this year, the number will increase to make matters easier," Zailani told a press conference after a Kelantan RTD breaking of fast event here last night.

He said members of the public have brought up issues concerning the digital platform. These include a possibility of a person not having any mobile Internet data on their smartphones, absence of Internet coverage, smartphone batteries going dead or a person not having a smartphone.

He said such matters could be resolved by the RTD when its personnel uses a tool called the Smart Management Enforcement Device (SMED), which can display whether a person's licence or road tax is still active or needs to be renewed.

"A person would only need to give his or her MyKad for the SMED and their relevant information will appear on the display."

On a separate matter, Zailani said the RTD together with related agencies including the police will conduct integrated operations as per usual ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He said among their focuses will be to disperse road congestion, especially in Gua Musang since the main Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis route will be closed until April 29 to allow for bridge piling works under sections 3B and 3C of the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) expressway project.

"We expect congestion, especially on the Gua Musang and Kuala Krai route and we will work with the police to disperse traffic.

"Travellers should not rely on that route alone because there are other options such as Lebuhraya Pantai Timur via Terengganu or Jalan Gerik, Perak," he said.
