Driver of Honda Civic in Genting crash had 11 speeding summonses

BENTONG: The driver of a Honda Civic car, which went viral after the vehicle was recorded crashing into a hillslope at Km14.6 of Jalan Genting Highlands here yesterday, had 11 traffic summonses for speeding.

Bentong police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the 27-year-old driver escaped unhurt in the 7.25am accident.

"The driver from Serdang, Selangor was travelling to Genting Highlands. Upon reaching a bend, the driver overtook another vehicle, which was travelling uphill, before losing control of the wheel. He swerved towards the hillslope on the left side of the stretch.

"Police have called the driver for questioning and investigation revealed the vehicle had 11 summonses for speeding. We will call the owner of the dashcam footage to assist police in gathering more details on the incident," he said in a statement.

Zaiham said the case was being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving recklessly and dangerously.

A dashcam footage of the incident, which has since gone viral on Facebook page "JB Tracer : Johor Bahru Traffic, Crime & Community", showed the Honda Civic travelling on the fast lane before the driver was believed to have lost control of his vehicle while overtaking another car on the slow lane.
