Gas leak from malfunctioning car air cond knocked out family in Bentong toll plaza incident

BENTONG: A suspected gas leak from a malfunctioning air-conditioner was the cause of a family of four being knocked out in the vehicle, sending it crashing into the toll plaza barrier here.

District police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the family of four was fortunate that nothing worse had happened and that there were police nearby to assist them.

"The victims who were unconscious were brought out of the vehicle and given first aid before the medical team attended to them. The car driver, his wife and their two children are out of danger," he said, adding that preliminary investigations revealed the victims had a low level of oxygen in their bodies.

Meanwhile, the eldest son of the family, identified as Syafiq Mok, wrote on social media that his family was safe and conscious.

"I am the eldest son of the family... my family is safe. The reason everyone fainted was due to a leak from the car air-conditioner.

"My father and our entire family are grateful to all those who helped us... only God can repay your kindness," he wrote on Facebook.

It was reported earlier that the family was found unconcious after their vehicle slammed into the Bentong toll plaza barrier on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway about 2.40pm.
