KUALA LUMPUR: Firefighters have successfully brought the fire at Mid Valley Megamall under control.
The blaze originated from an electrical substation owned by Tenaga Nasional Bhd within the mall premises. The fire broke out at about 10.30am.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant operation director M. Fatta Amin said upon arrival at the scene at 10.40am, his team noticed that one of the four transformers in the substation was ablaze.
"The fire department had to perform an offensive and defensive manoeuvre to ensure the other three transformer would not catch fire.
"We also had to douse the fire which was fuelled with 12,400 litres of transformer oil with a flashpoint of 137 degrees celsius using foam."
He added that any residual fire was fully extinguished by 12.44pm today.

Meanwhile, Brickfields district police chief ACP Amihizam Abdul Shukor said initial investigations proved there were no sign of foul play.
"Initial investigations has proven that there were no signs of foul play, however we are awaiting the full result of the investigation from the Fire Department's forensic department.

Amihizam had also ask everyone to remain calm as it is a normal incident and that the power supply to the surrounding areas have been restored.
"I was told that TNB has restored the power to the surrounding area of Mid Valley. However, I can't estimate when this damaged substation will be repaired," he told reporters.
