KUALA LUMPUR: The government will look into the issue of scalpers reselling tickets at exorbitant prices for the highly-anticipated concert of British rock band Coldplay in the country.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil today said he planned to discuss the matter with Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.
In a Tweet, Fahmi shared a screenshot from a news report, which shed light on the exorbitant prices at which Coldplay tickets are being resold, reaching up to RM43,000.
Fahmi emphasised that concert ticket prices were regulated by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.
"This is too extreme. God willing, I'll raise the matter with Salahuddin," Fahmi stated.
Coldplay fans expressed their frustrations on Twitter after facing difficulties obtaining tickets for the band's concert at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Nov 22.
Responding to Fahmi's tweet, @faribelm wrote, "Yes, please investigate all other resellers who bought more than four just to resell for another price. It is like others who are equally excited to go for the concert are at the mercy of the resellers."
@AlvinGill20 tweeted, "Can the authorities audit the ticketing platforms on how fairly tickets were allocated to those queuing up?"
@thenameisJanetJ said: "Some resellers are selling it at ridiculous prices. They managed to make purchases in bulk. This suggests the possibility of an insider monopolising bulk purchases, perhaps with access to the ticketing system. Please investigate and question the event organiser."
Expressing gratitude, @MazniAz said, "Yes! Thank you, YB Fahmi, for highlighting this issue."
@farfarjane pleaded, "Please take immediate action against these ticket scalpers! There are many on Carousell."
Ticket prices for the upcoming concert of popular British rock band Coldplay here are priced from RM228 to RM3,088.
