Sultan of Perak, Raja Permaisuri to dine with media in celebration of National Journalists' Day (Hawana)

IPOH: Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim will attend a special dinner with media practitioners to commemorate National Journalists' Day (Hawana) 2023.

The dinner is one of the highlighted events of Hawana and is expected to be attended by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Tonight, more than 300 media practitioners from across the country will be celebrated at the Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar. The dinner is scheduled to commence at 8.30pm.

Sultan Nazrin in his speech at several events before had emphasised the importance of media and expressed appreciation for the media practitioners who have played a vital role in conveying crucial information, strategies, and advice through their respective networks.

On Thursday, Sultan Nazrin had consented for three media practitioners to deliver Friday's sermon yesterday in selected mosques in Perak.

The selected media practitioners were Berita Harian editor (Feature, Religious and Literature) Mohd Nazmi Yaacob, Sinar Harian reporter Saifullah Ahmad and Radio Television Malaysia programme producer, Mohd Fahmi Mohd Nor.

Hawana kicked off at 7am today with the 'Media Hunt' programme, which will be flagged off by Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching. The programme will commence at Wisma Bernama in Kuala Lumpur and conclude at Mydin Mall in Meru.

Additionally, a Mini Hawana Carnival will be hosted at Concourse 2, Mydin Mall, from 10am to 6pm, followed by a bowling tournament at Ipoh Bowl, AEON Kinta City, at 1pm. The bowling tournament will be launched by Bernama's acting editor-in-chief Jamaluddin Muhammad.

Hawana is the largest gathering in Malaysia dedicated to commemorating and appreciating the journalism profession. It will be held today and tomorrow, with the theme 'Free Media, Pillar of Democracy,' underscoring the significance of media freedom for journalists to fulfil their duties.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to grace the highlight of the celebration tomorrow at Casuarina Hotel in Meru here.
