KUALA LUMPUR: Long time Selayang folks R. Rayangi and P.Subramaniam were the first in line at the SJK(C) Selayang Baru polling station for the Selangor state election.
The couple, from Taman Selayang Mutiara, arrived at the school gates at 6.45am accompanied with their daughter, 31-year-old S.Ranjini, to cast their votes for the Taman Templer constituency.
Despite standing for over an hour while waiting for the gates to open, Rayangi, 61, and Subramaniam, 63, said they were not tired at all, despite going on a brisk walk earlier.
"We are excited to vote and we came early because there is forecasted rain so we do not want to be caught in bad weather," said Rayangi.
Also in line were twins, Halimah Haron and her sister Hasmah, 71.
The sisters came to the school with their younger siblings, Salmah and Hasri, aged 62 and 57 respectively.
"We have all planned to come together a month ago and we came in one car today.
"It is better to come early so that we have the rest of the day to catch-up with each other," said Halimah.
Selangor and five other states go to the polls today after the culmination of a 14-day campaign last night.
Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is seeking re-election at the Sungai Tua constituency.
He is vying for the seat against Perikatan Nasional's Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin and independent Suman Gopal.
