Former Jasin MP Mohd Said dies

MELAKA: Former Jasin Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Mohd Said Yusof has died at Hospital Melaka last night (August 28).

Mohd Said, 70, who is also the former Jasin Umno division deputy chief, breathed his last while receiving treatment at the hospital at 8.10pm.

Mohd Said's second child, Nur Adawiah said that his remains will be brought to their family home in Padang Temu here before being laid to rest at the Padang Temu Muslim cemetery at around 10am.

"My father has been suffering from a few ailments such as heart problems and diabetes.

"Since a few days ago, his health took a turn for the worse and he had to be rushed to hospital after his condition worsened and he became even weaker yesterday afternoon (August 28) before it was confirmed by the doctor that he had passed away at around 8.10pm," said Nur Adawiah.

Mohd Said leaves behind his wife, Datin Rozana Shamsudin, three children and six grandchildren.

Mohd Said was elected as the Jasin Member of Parliament (MP) during the 2004 General Elections where he defeated Pas candidate Jasme Tompang with a resounding majority of 21,334 votes.

He polled 31,198 votes compared to his rival who only managed 9,864 votes.

Mohd Said will be remembered for being an outspoken Parliamentarian who would always voice out issues faced and endured by the people during Parliament sitting sessions, so much so he gained the respect of his colleagues as well as foes.

He was also a leader who was warm, approachable and friendly with the people who worked hard to resolve all the issues and problems faced by the people which included the aspect of welfare.

He also made efforts to cultivate and expand the entrepreneurship field among the community in Jasin.

Meanwhile, a few state leaders extended their condolences to his grieving family, such as Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam; Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who is also Jasin Umno division chief.
