KUALA LUMPUR: Brunei is currently hosting one of the most extravagant weddings in recent history, with numerous opulent ceremonies and celebrations scheduled to unfold for Prince Abdul Mateen and his bride.
The wedding celebrations began on Jan 7, where the prince, who was named "Asia's most eligible bachelor" recently, wed his fiancee, Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Brunei's capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
According to Radio Television Brunei the royal wedding ceremony began with the 'Majlis Istiadat Bersuruh Diraja' (royal command protocol), marking one of the 10-day wedding celebration's significant highlights.
Following this, the 'Majlis Istiadat Akad Nikah' (solemnisation ceremony) took place on Jan 11, where the prince officially wedded his commoner fiancee.
The royal wedding reception and parade around Bandar Seri Begawan are set to start on Jan 14, which would conclude with an elaborate royal banquet.
This event is anticipated to attract high-profile guests from various parts of the world.
The event will wrap up with a 'doa selamat' prayer ceremony and a closing of the guard drums (majlis istiadat membaca doa selamat dan menutup gendang jaga-jaga) scheduled for Jan 16.
Prince Mateen, the tenth child of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who holds the record as the world's longest-reigning monarch and was once the world's wealthiest person, is sixth in line for the throne.
Despite the slim chances of ascending to the throne, Prince Mateen has gained significant attention on social media for his charm and handsome looks, establishing himself as one of the most prominent members of the royal family.
A 32-year-old helicopter pilot and a Royal Brunei Air Force Major, Prince Mateen has made a name for himself by excelling in polo, having pet tigers and accumulating an impressive 2.5 million followers on Instagram.
Prince Mateen and Anisha Rosnah had reportedly dated for a number of years before their engagement was announced last year in October.
