TEMERLOH: A retiree, who was reported missing after going to check his fishing net at Kampung Belenggu near here yesterday, was found drowned today.
The body of Syed Hashim Syed Hassan, 63, was found by search and rescue (SAR) operation members at about 10.35am not far from the spot he had cast his net.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said one of the victim's children had lodged a police report at about 9pm yesterday that Syed Hashim had gone to inspect his fishing net but failed to return home by 7.30pm.
"An hour later, a neighbour informed that the victim's motorcycle was spotted parked at Jalan Estet in Kampung Belenggu but he was nowhere to be seen. The surrounding area was dark and the road was submerged under 1.5m of water.
"Today, a SAR team consisting of 10 policemen and 16 firemen on several boats searched the area before they recovered the victim's body near the spot he was inspecting his fishing net. His remains were taken to the Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital here," he said, adding the SAR operations were officially called off at 11.20am.
