TEMERLOH: A heavy downpour that struck Temerloh late yesterday flooded several residential areas and roads in the area.
The rain, which lasted for over two hours from 7pm, affected homes in Kampung Paya Pulai, Kampung Paya Luas, Taman Jaya, Jalan Bahagia, and partially submerged the traffic light junction near Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital.
Temerloh member of parliament Salamiah Mohd Nor reported that no residents in the affected areas were evacuated, and floodwaters fully receded by midnight.
"Once the rain stopped, the water gradually subsided, and residents began cleaning their homes with help from volunteers. This is the first time flash floods have hit these areas. The murky water that entered several homes has raised concerns about the drainage system. I will be visiting the affected areas today with the Department of Environment (DOE) to identify the main cause," she said when contacted.
Salamiah suggested that ongoing road works and construction projects in the vicinity might have contributed to the flash floods, which were less than a metre deep.
Images and videos of the muddy, debris-strewn roads, along with volunteers assisting in the cleanup efforts, have since gone viral on social media.
