Kota Kinabalu promotes sustainability with compost sale event

KOTA KINABALU: In conjunction with the KK Cleanup Day 1.0, Jalan Jati, and the "My City, My Responsibility 1.0" campaign, Kota Kinabalu is taking a significant step towards sustainability with a compost sale aimed at reducing waste sent to landfills.

Kota Kinabalu City Hall, in a Facebook post on Jan 31, revealed that the event would take place on Feb 3 from 6am to 11am at Jalan Jati, formerly known as the location of the Sugar Bun Restaurant on Jalan Gaya.

"A variety of interesting and beneficial activities are set to be carried out as part of the programme on that day, one of which is the sale of compost fertiliser," the post said.

The compost, generated through the environmentally friendly process of organic waste composting, represents a vital initiative in waste reduction. By using this method, organic waste is broken down and transformed into nutrient-rich compost, perfect for gardening and agriculture, thus reducing the amount of garbage that ends up in the city's dumps.

Residents are encouraged to participate not only in the compost sale but also in the day's cleanup activities, demonstrating their commitment to the environment. The event will also serve as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of responsible waste management and the benefits of composting.

For more information on the compost sale and other related activities, citizens are encouraged to visit the official event page on social media or contact the organisers directly.
