MyLesen B2 Programme to be expanded
KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry is gearing up to expand the MyLesen B2 Programme this year, the Dewan Rakyat was told today (March 4).
This, its minister Anthony Loke said, was aimed at providing greater access to driving licences, especially for the B40 group.
"This year, we intend to increase the number of recipients or applicants of this programme for free.
"One of the initiatives undertaken by the ministry is that we are currently implementing several new special registration number series."
He said the recently launched plate number 'Gold' has generated over RM17 million in revenue, and half of the proceeds will be returned to the ministry for initiatives that include the Class B2 licence.
He expressed hope that the programme could be expanded further next year.
He was responding to Datuk Azman Nasrudin (PN-Padang Serai) on the ministry's plan to expand MyLesen this year to offer more opportunities for the B40 group and youth to obtain licences for free.
Meanwhile, in a supplementary question, Azman asked about the steps that are being taken and have been taken by the ministry following accidents involving heavy vehicles that occurred recently.
In response, Loke said soon the public will see a new approach, including the installation of weight in motion systems to track any overloaded heavy vehicle entering or exiting the highway.
"Through these weight in motion systems, we will be able to ascertain whether or not the vehicle exceeds its load limit.
"This is currently being implemented, and we hope to launch this weight in motion system in the near future to stop overloaded vehicles from entering highways."
