KUALA LUMPUR: The government said it did not give any allocation-related drafts to the opposition for the constituencies they hold, refuting a claim made by an opposition leader.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is the government's spokesman, said this was confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof at a recent cabinet meeting.
"There were no drafts given to or received from the opposition. I am unsure why the opposition leader used the word 'draft'.
"His (Fadillah's) meeting with opposition representatives, including their leader (Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin), was simply to hear views on proposals and possible offers.
"No draft documents mentioned by the opposition leader and media reports were given, only discussions were held," he said after the launch of the Initiatif Ramadan CSR programme at the IWK Eco Park Community Centre here.
Last Thursday, Hamzah told Parliament that he had received a draft on allocation requests for opposition-held constituencies.
He said the opposition would discuss the draft, sign it, then get the allocation.
Fahmi said the cabinet was reviewing the discussion and would consider follow-up actions soon.
"For now, we have yet to receive anything substantive from the opposition. So, we'll have to go back to the drawing board.
"If any members of parliament feel that the discussion is going too slow, don't blame the government. Ask the opposition leader why it is slow."
