SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will focus on enforcement and monitoring at 30 blackspot locations along with hotspot areas.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said they would mobilise 843 traffic officers under Ops Selamat 22, a safety campaign for the upcoming Raya festive season from April 8 to 13.
Blackspot locations are areas prone to accidents, while hotspot areas are ones prone to traffic congestion.
"A total of 11 speed trap operation locations will be set up, while 7 smooth operation locations (Ops lancar) will be conducted.
"Among the blackspot areas we are focusing on are the Ijok-Kuala Selangor road, the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway, Kilometer (KM) 407-KM410 of the North-South Expressway, Jalan Pelabuhan Barat, Jalan Meru, Jalan Salak-Sepang, and Jalan Serdang Jaya," he said at a press conference after launching the road safety campaign in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri here today.
He said Op Selamat 22 would also involve cooperation with related agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department, Road Transport Department, and highway concessionaires to ensure the safety of highway users during the festive season.
Hussein advised road users to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before starting their journey, follow the speed limit, be considerate of other road users, refrain from using mobile phones while driving, and wear seat belts.
He also called on those who would be going back to their hometowns to inform a nearby police station of their absence or declare their absence through the Voluntary Smartphone Patrol.
Op Selamat, themed 'Rumah Selamat, Selamat Sampai Destinasi', would involve approximately 7,114 officers in the state to ensure the safety of the community and their homes.
