Man killed after tree falls on car at Jalan Sultan Ismail [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was killed after an uprooted tree fell on his car on Jalan Sultan Ismail.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed this, saying that two victims were extricated from the car by personnel.

The deceased, a 47-year-old male, was confirmed dead by paramedics at the scene.

The second victim, a 26-year-old male who sustained injuries, was taken to hospital.

The Fire and Rescue Department said that the Kuala Lumpur Operations Centre received an emergency call at 2.19pm and dispatched vehicles to the scene.

The team from the Jalan Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Station, along with three auxiliary stations, namely Titiwangsa, Jalan Tun Razak, and Sentul BBP, deployed FRT-4 and EMRS-4 vehicles, comprising 27 other personnel of various ranks.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations assistant director Fatta M. Amin said upon arrival at the scene, it was found that a large tree had fallen onto the road.

The tree damaged 17 vehicles and smashed into the monorail track above.

The tree also damaged a bus stop by the side of the road.

Earlier, strong winds and heavy rain at noon were reported following a thunderstorm in Kuala Lumpur.

The incident was captured on video opposite the Concorde Hotel.

Several cars can be seen trapped under the fallen tree with drivers seen exiting their vehicles.

The clip has since gone viral.
