KUALA KUBU BAHARU: While other polling stations in Kuala Kubu Baru buzzed with voters, SJK(T) Ladang Kerling stood in stark contrast with a low voter turnout.
Checks by the New Straits Times revealed minimal movement of voters here compared to other polling stations.
Up to 2pm, it is understood that barely 500 voters had cast their ballots at this polling station, which had been opened since 8am.
The polling centre's supervisor, Kalaiyanan, said the third stream, consisting of young voters, recorded the lowest turnout.
"Senior citizens turned out in good numbers since early morning.
"However, young voters might be working outside the area and may come to vote only in the afternoon."
With only four hours left before the polling centre is closed, SJK(T) Ladang Kerling recorded only a 44 per cent voter turnout.
According to the Election Commission, the polling centre has 1,235 registered voters, the majority of whom are from the Indian community.
Voters at Kuala Kubu Baru started casting their votes as early as 8am today.
The by-election sees a four-cornered fight involving Pang Sock Tao (Pakatan Harapan), Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).
It was called due to the death of incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 from cancer.
