KUALA LUMPUR: A man was trapped in the driver's seat of his car in an accident caused by a detached lorry tyre striking two other cars at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim here this morning.
The City Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre in a statement said a fire rescue tender from the Sri Hartamas Fire Station was sent to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.06am.
Operations commander Mohd Izan Ismail said upon arrival at the scene, the team found an accident involving a Proton Iriz and a Proton Saga.
"The accident occurred when a lorry tyre detached and struck both vehicles. The accident also resulted in the male driver of the Proton Iriz becoming trapped in the driver's seat," read the statement.
Rescuers extricated the victim using hydraulic cutting equipment at 7.41am and handed him over to medical staff for treatment.
"The victim was freed from the car at 07:41 hours and was conscious. He was handed over to the Health Ministry for further action."
A video has been circulating on social media showing a car purportedly severely damaged because it was hit by lorry tyre.
