Sabah mobile govt service reaching out to those in the interior

KOTA KINABALU: The mobile community service (MCS) is gearing up to implement at least 12 programmes this year in the remote areas of the state that do not have accessibility to government services.

The programme, managed by the Sabah Malaysian Treasury, aims to bring people closer to various government agencies and statutory bodies by going to the ground, said the federal Finance Ministry in a statement.

SK Magandai in Kota Marudu was the sixth location to host the programme on May 11 and 12.

Members of the secretariat and personnel from 13 government agencies travelled to the school in the interior in four-wheel drive vehicles for three hours, which was 70 kilometres away from Kota Marudu town.

They delivered government services to 500 residents of Mukim Ulu Bengkoka, including Kampung Sungai Magandai, Kampung Sonsogon Suyad, Kampung Sonsogon Suyad Sonsogon Magandai, Kampung Sonsogon Paliu, Kampung Sonsogon Mogis, Kampung Sonsogon Binotungan Suyad, and Kampung Sonsogon Makatol Darat.

The programme also saw a determined reception of villagers, who trekked in the rain for eight hours to reach the service centre.

Overall, the MCS programme has had a profound impact on the villagers.

The Sabah Mobile Court processed 13 cases of late birth registration endorsements due to transport problems. It cost RM700 for villagers to go to the Kota Marudu courts to register births, and most of them could not afford it.

The National Registration Department also recorded four applications for late registration of births and one application for a late registration of MyKad.

In addition, the Sabah Education Department also managed to re-enrol one child to school, who was among five cases of dropouts recorded in the Sabah Zero Dropout Operation (OPSCIS).

The Sabah Agriculture Department provided fruit seedlings and taught 70 villagers about agriculture, besides providing them information on how to apply for young agropreneur grants and carry out agro-tourism in their villages.

Socso provided a briefing on the MYFutureJobs service, offering job opportunities from several employers, including accommodation, meals and transportation.

In addition, Socso received two applications for payment of contributions under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme, and payment receipts were issued immediately.
