KUALA TERENGGANU: A baby born without ears, who went viral previously, died yesterday due to a lung infection and fever from which he had been suffering since May 28.
His 42-year-old mother, Rozana Zakaria Omar, said Muhammad Firdaus Zaquan Abdul Wahab, 23 months old, died in her arms at 3.45pm while being treated at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ).
"Firdaus was no longer feverish and was just waiting to go home.
"However, Firdaus suddenly turned pale and was referred to a doctor, who then confirmed his death," she said at her home today.
Rozana said her son had only just started walking two months ago.
"We did not have enough time to play with him after he started walking, his time was short.
"As a mother, my family and I are satisfied that we took good care of him, including meeting all of his medical needs.
"Given the type of illness he had since birth, which included Patau syndrome, a hole in the heart, and kidney disease, he was only expected to survive for a year," she added.
Firdaus, the youngest of five siblings, was buried at the Kampung Laut Muslim cemetery at 8pm yesterday.
Previously, the media reported that the baby was considered very special due to being born without both ears but was reportedly able to hear well.
