Man drowns after falling into river near Padang Jawa waterlock

SHAH ALAM: A man was found drowned today after reportedly falling into a river near the Padang Jawa waterlock in Section 16, Shah Alam.

In a statement, Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the police received information about the incident from the public at 5.49pm today.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the Malay man was fishing near the waterlock area. While trying to climb up the bank, he slipped and fell into the river.

"With a team of 12 persons, search and rescue efforts were carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department. At about 7.15pm, the victim was found about 15 metres from the scene," he said in a statement today.

He added that the body was sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang for a post-mortem, to be held tomorrow at 12pm to determine the cause of death.

"An investigation is also being carried out under a sudden death report (SDR). Anyone with further information can contact investigating officer Inspector Mohd Shahrul Bakri at 012-3630512," said Mohd Iqbal.
