KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Works Department (PWD) has taken swift action by implementing control measures and lodging a police report in response to illegal motorcycle racing on an unfinished section of the Central Spine Road highway in Kelantan.
In a statement, it clarified that the affected stretch was part of the ongoing Central Spine Road project, specifically Package 2B from Kota Baru to Kuala Krai (Ketereh to Kok Lanas).
"The existing contract for this project has been terminated and is currently in the re-tendering process and as such is classified as a construction site and the public is prohibited from entering the area.
"Control measures following the contract termination have been implemented, such as the installation of warning signs and concrete barriers to prevent access to and from the construction site.
"Therefore, the act of trespassing into this project area as reported is prohibited and may result in legal action."
The department also said it would continuously ensure that the warning signs and concrete barriers were in good and orderly condition at the site.
"A police report has also been made to request the cooperation of the authorities to conduct regular patrols at the location."
It was earlier reported that the area has been a magnet for illegal motorcycle racers or "mat rempit".
The urgency of these measures follows a tragic incident where a 17-year-old teenager lost his life in a motorcycle accident involving other riders on Monday.
