Woman fractures leg after buffalo breaks loose during qurban ritual

KOTA KINABALU: A woman fractured her leg after a buffalo broke loose and charged at residents during a 'qurban' ritual in Kampung Rampayan, Menggatal.

The victim, in her 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident that occured at 9.30am yesterday (June 17).

Surau Ar-Rahman Kampung Tobur Rampayan deputy chairman Ali Osman Ismail said villagers were moving buffaloes for 'qurban' when one of them broke free.

"Villagers were moving five buffaloes for sacrifice, but one buffalo broke free when a tether snapped.

"That buffalo ran around the compound, charging at villagers.

"The victim was trying to protect her child when she was attacked."

He said villagers immediately called for an ambulance for the victim.

He said the buffalo was recaptured and the 'qurban' ritual was completed.

Videos of the incident have been circulating on social media, showing the buffalo breaking loose and an ambulance transporting the injured woman to hospital.
