Sungai Belaga longboat capsize: Body of second victim found

KUCHING: The body of another man who drowned when a longboat capsized in Sungai Belaga on Sunday was found this morning.

Villagers found the body of Rhuban Apparoo, 30, about 8.20am, 18km downriver from where the boat capsized, the Fire and Rescue Department said.

Rhuban was from Padang Serai in Kedah.

Five people were in the boat, including a villager who was steering it. Rhuban and three others had rented it for an excursion to the Menjawah rapids.

The vessel was struck by strong waves about 4pm.

The body of the first victim, Balavishnu Permaloo, 36, was recovered yesterday just 50 metres from the site of the incident.

Balavishnu was also from Padang Serai.

The three others on the boat managed to swim to safety.
