Teenager dies in four-motorcycle crash in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: A teenage boy died in a road accident involving four motorcycles near Jalan Padang Matsirat here yesterday.

The deceased, identified as Muhammad Naqib Rashidi, 18, died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Langkawi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said initial investigations found that the deceased had lost control of his motorcycle, leading to the accident.

He said that the deceased was travelling from the direction of Kampung Perana towards Kuah at the time of the accident.

"Upon reaching a bend at the accident location, the deceased lost control of his motorcycle, hit the road divider, and was thrown onto the road.

"Three other riders, who were travelling in the same direction, were unable to avoid the deceased's motorcycle due to their close proximity and collided with it.

"As a result of the accident, the deceased sustained severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene," he said in a statement today.

He said the other riders sustained minor injuries and were taken to Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi for treatment.

"The deceased's body was also taken to the hospital for a post-mortem," he added.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
