HULU SELANGOR: A nine-year old boy who was looking for shellfish near Taman Tasik Teratai in Serendah near here drowned after he slipped and fell into the lake this evening.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said the nine-year-old victim died in the Red Zone at Selayang Hospital at 8.55pm.
He said police received a distress call regarding the incident at 6.04pm.
"The initial investigation found that the victim slipped in the lake while some of his friends went to ask for help from the public in the surrounding area.
"At 6.52pm the boy was successfully rescued. Firefighters from the Kuala Kubu Baharu Fire and Rescue Station arrived and gave first aid to the victim as he was still breathing," he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Faizal said the victim was taken to Selayang Hospital by ambulance before being pronounced dead about an hour later.
He urged the public who wanted to carry out recreational activities at the lake to exercise caution especially during the rainy season, and to be aware of their children and family members whereabouts to prevent from unwanted incidents.
