KOTA BHARU: A woman who was seriously injured after being hit by a fallen log in an accident last week will need extensive surgery and treatments.
"The doctor informed us that surgery will be performed to remove the damaged kidney, and treat the spine, pelvis, ribs, liver, spleen, lungs, and gallbladder, which have severe injuries," said Ujiriah Kamaruzaman, 41.
Ujiriah is the elder sister of Siti Norelyana Kamaruzaman, 21, who was struck by a dislodged log from a lorry that overturned near the Bendahara Intersection in Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai at 11.23am last Tuesday.
She said Siti Norelyana, the tenth of twelve siblings, is strong in fighting the pain.
"Alhamdulillah, my sister is stable and still being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II).
"However, for now, the doctors are waiting until my sister's condition improves before proceeding with the surgery," she said when contacted today.
She added that her sister works as a salesperson in Gua Musang town and was on her way to work when the incident occurred.
Gua Musang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, reportedly said a broken turntable on the lorry while negotiating a corner is believed to have caused the logs to fall and roll, hitting a female motorcyclist.
