Female trader dead in three-car pile up

SETIU: A female trader was killed in an accident involving three vehicles at Kilometer 35.5 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu - Kota Baru, near Lembah Bidong, today.

Setiu police chief Deputy Supt. Mohd Zain Mat Dris said the 12.50pm crash resulted in the death of the victim, Nik Nabilah Nik Abdul Ghaffar, 36, from Padang Luas, Jerteh, Besut, who was driving a Toyota Avanza.

She died at the scene due to severe injuries.

He said the two other vehicles involved were a lorry and a tour bus.

"Nik Nabilah died at the scene, while her son, Wan Muhammad Aqil Wan Zulkhairi, 16, who was in the back seat, sustained injuries to his right hand.

"The lorry driver, his assistant, and the tour bus driver were unharmed," Zain said today.

He said the incident is believed to have occurred when the victim was traveling from Besut towards Wakaf Tembesu, Kuala Terengganu, while the lorry and tour bus were coming from the opposite direction.

Zain said the accident likely happened when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driven by the woman lost control and grazed the right rear side of the lorry.

"At the same time, the victim's vehicle also collided with the right front side of the bus.

"The deceased was sent to the Forensic Unit of Setiu Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while Wan Muhammad Aqil was sent to the same hospital for treatment," Zain said.

According to Zain, the other two vehicles, the lorry driven by a 28-year-old man with a 57-year-old assistant, were traveling from Bukit Payong, Marang, towards Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan.

He said the tour bus, driven by a 51-year-old man, was heading from Sultan Mahmud Airport), Kuala Nerus, towards the Merang jetty.

"Further investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," Zain said.
