LANGKAWI: A total of 42 Malaysian and international graffiti artists have been invited to create their unique artworks at the Hospital Lama Kuah site here.
National Art Gallery director-general Amerrudin Ahmad said the collaborative project, titled 'Lukisan Surat', is part of the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry's (Motac) efforts to share the Malaysia Madani aspirations via graffiti art.
He said the Malaysian graffiti artists include Foxg from Kedah, Mosho, Skyd One, Wise One, Nestwo, Cloakwork, and Ganz (from Kuala Lumpur), as well as Mile09 and Rash1 from Putrajaya.
"Among the international graffiti artists participating are from Singapore, Indonesia, China, Spain, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium, Turkey, and India.
"This is part of our effort to promote the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, focusing on the strength of the nation, country, and civilisation, as well as empowering language and culture through great works of art," he told reporters after the launch of 'Graff For Nation' here by the National Visual Arts Development Board's board member Associate Professor Jalaini Abu Hassan.
Amerrudin said the five-day event would also feature side events called Nat Graff, aimed at strengthening the relationship between the art community and the local ecosystem.
"Among them are art exhibitions and workshops, sales of art products, streetwear, customised toy art, and coffee culture, all expected to make the event lively and impactful.
"This location was picked following the success of the previous programme, the Kuah Graffiti Festival themed 'Meeting of Styles,' which managed to gather 50 artists in October last year," he said.
