MIRI: Police have dismissed a social media post claiming four masked men are on the prowl around the coastal village of Bakam for women to kidnap.
Bakam, a sleepy, laid-back rural area with a community that engages in traditional activities such as fishing, farming, and small-scale agriculture, is approximately 25 kilometers south of the city.
When contacted, Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the post was 'not true'.
The post, making its rounds on WhatsApp, claimed there was a recent kidnap attempt but did not state when.
It stated the victim managed to escape her captors on foot.
