KLUANG: A woman in her 70s is believed to have been killed by an elephant while tapping rubber in Kahang here this morning.
The woman, Misirah Soliman, was found by Indonesian workers from a nearby oil palm plantation.
"Her body was already cold when it was found," Misirah's daughter Norlaili Salleh said when contacted.
Norlaili said she was informed by her son who lives in Kluang that Misirah was attacked by an elephant.
She said Misirah had been a rubber tapper from a young age.
"I cannot believe this has happened. Before this, there were times elephants would enter the (plantation) area behind my mother's house."
Norlaili said she accepted her mother's passing but voiced hope that the authorities would take necessary measures to prevent a repeat of the incident.
"In the past, Perhilitan came many times. At the edge of the village, there is even a forest reserve. Perhaps the elephants came here looking for food."
Misirah will be buried today.
