KLUANG: A male elephant crossing a road in Kampung Gajah was killed after it was hit by a trailer last night.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the trailer driver was unhurt in the 10.45pm accident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer was travelling from Mersing towards Kahang Timur when the elephant suddenly crossed the road, leading to the crash.
"The elephant was badly injured and succumbed to injury at the scene of the accident."
He said the Johor Department of Wildlife and National Parks has removed the elephant's carcass from the site.
The case is being probed under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules for failure to control a vehicle.
