KUALA NERUS: Eleven-year-old Siti Khadijah Umairah Hashim creatively used newspapers, plastic and bottles to win the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) Fashion Competition at the Terengganu Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) here today.
SK Tok Jiring pupil said she was surprised with the win, which saw her taking home RM300 and souvenirs from Media Prima Bhd.
Siti Khadijah, the second of three siblings, said she frequently participated in fashion competitions, including those focused on recycled materials.
She said her mother; Noorahayu Endut, 45, took almost two hours to create the outfit.
"I joined this competition not just to win, but to support the programme organised by Media Prima, in conjunction with KJH," she said.
Studio Tonton Drama Sangat event manager Shah Sulaiman said this was the first KJH to have the 3R fashion competition.
"Every KJH event, we at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat organise various activities for visitors, and this 3R-themed fashioin competition is being introduced at this KJH.
"Today, we had 11 contestants. The response has been very encouraging, especially from the visitors who came to watch the fashion competition.
"Given the positive feedback, we plan to introduce this concept at other KJH locations," he said.
