APM member comes to aid of student crushed by tree

SIK: "I managed to whisper the 'syahadah' to the victim, who was still alive. At that time, he was quite weak and his head was severely bleeding, besides cuts on his body."

Those were the words of Sik Civil Defense Force (APM) member Rozaidi Saat.

In the 7.20am incident, a 17-year-old Form Five student, Muhammad Assif Md Zahid, was crushed to death by an uprooted tree in Kampung Charuk Sireh, here.

Rozaidi said he was travelling to work when he saw the teenager lying on the ground, not far from the victim's home.

"The victim was riding the motorcycle to his school when the incident struck."

Rozaidi added that the victim's father, who arrived at the scene later, asked for his help to rush the teenager to Sik Hospital.

He wrapped the victim with a piece of cloth before lifting him into the car.

"I had to be careful to avoid further aggravating his injuries. Untrained people must refrain from lifting an accident victim, but since his father asked my favour, I did it to accompany him to the hospital," said Rozaidi, who has been serving with APM for the past four years.

He said the victim was still alive then, although he was unconscious.

"The doctor tried to save him. I was devastated upon learning that he died not long after arriving at the hospital."

Sik police chief Superintendent Abdull Razak Osman said the victim had died from severe traumatic brain injury.
