Despite a change of Sabah govt, DOs and officials continue to get an earful from Chief Minister

TUARAN: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will take firm action against officials who do not carry out their duties effectively and properly.

The Chief Minister said he received numerous complaints from the public regarding the lack of transparency and integrity in implementing government projects that could eradicate poverty.

He added those complaints were lodged against district officers (DOs), assistant district officers (ADOs) and government department officials.

"Therefore, I hope DOs and ADOs will focus on and emphasise integrity and transparency.

"What is important is that we simplify the processes related to the implementation of small projects because the people need them. As officials who are constantly in the field, the people are watching us.

"If there are deficiencies or leaks in the implementation of government programmes in the districts, the consequences and implications will be borne by both the elected representatives and the government because the public will criticise the representatives and the government," he said during the opening the 27th Sabah District Officers' Conference 2024 at a hotel near here.

During the Parti Warisan-led state government, then Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal had reprimanded district officers for being inefficient.

Hajiji said the effectiveness of a government relies on its officials, particularly the DOs and ADOs in the field as the people interact with them for various matters.

"I want to remind you that I will not compromise if I find deliberate delays in the implementation of development projects for the people, difficulties in dealing with the public, or if officials are taking advantage for personal gain.

"If there is clear evidence, I will take firm action against those officials who do not carry out their duties as entrusted, effectively and properly."
