KOTA MARUDU: A man died when the car he was driving skidded and overturned in a banana plantation near Jalan Langkon, Pitas early this morning.
The victim identified as Grandson Poyo, 36, was confirmed dead at the scene.
He was pinned in the driver's seat.
A spokesman for the operations centre of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said they received a call regarding the incident at 1.02am.
He said a team of members and officers from the Marudu Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene of the incident.
"Upon arriving at the scene, a victim was found trapped in the driver's side.
"The firemen extricated the victim using special equipment," he said in a media statement today.
According to him, the victim was confirmed dead by a Health Ministry medical officer at the scene of the incident.
"The victim's body was then handed over to the police for further action," he said.
