Fruit seller electrocuted while retrieving tent blown into live wire

KOTA BELUD: A fruit seller died after being electrocuted in Kampung Purak Ogis, Jalan Kota Belud-Ranau Bypass, here earlier this afternoon (Tuesday).

Latihim Baling Kok, 67, was pronounced dead as he was being treated at Kota Belud Hospital.

District police chief Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain said the victim was tending to his stall when his tent was blown away by a strong wind.

"The strong wind blew the victim's tent into an electrical wire, causing the victim to be electrocuted when he tried to retrieve it.

"The victim was then taken to hospital by the public but was confirmed dead," he said when contacted today.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Muhammad Syazwan Latun said a team of officers and personnel was despatched to the scene after receiving a call at 2.39pm.
