People often think I'm a school girl - Nur Syahirah

KUALA LUMPUR: Standing at just 124cm tall, Nur Syahirah Mohd Wari often attracts attention due to her height.

Some people mistakenly believe she is a 12-year-old school student.

However, the 24-year-old, who is a person with disability, said she never views her condition as something to be ashamed of.

She said many people were surprised when they learned her actual age because they often assumed she was much much younger.

"People often think I'm still in school and surprised when they discover my real age. Many remember me as a schoolgirl. While some praise me for being small, they are impressed that I am independent.

"I can purchase things and pay using phone (online), as well as appear more grown-up and wear makeup.

"People frequently guess my age to be between seven and 12 years old, but they are surprised when they find out how old I am," she said.

Syahirah, who is a graphic designer, said she does not feel ashamed or inferior about her physique.

Instead, she views it as a unique trait that has not prevented her from pursuing her interests.

Syahirah said she is grateful for the support of her family and friends, who have been supportive despite her physical appearance.

She added that she has never been bullied or ridiculed because of her condition.

"To date, no one has made fun of me directly because of my height. People may joke about my small size, but I don't take offense.

"In my family, I am the shortest. My two sisters and both my parents are all of average height, around 160cm and above. Even among our extended family, no one is as short as I am," she said during a recent interview with Harian Metro

She, however, acknowledged her height presents some challenges, such as reaching stuff at high places and driving a car.

However, she found solutions. For instance, she uses stairs to reach high items and has modified her car by adjusting the pedal and brakes to suit her needs.

She said women who are 130cm and below can also apply for a disabled parking permit.

Syahirah said she did not anticipate her TikTok videos would gain significant attention, and many netizens have shown interest in how she manages to drive and obtain a driver's licence.
