Map underground utilities, Fahmi tells DBKL, utility companies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall has been told to work with utility companies to draw up a map of underground utilities to avoid issues during construction.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said this would be important to gain visibility of conditions underground where networks of pipes and cables are laid.

"As a member of Parliament, I receive many complaints when an area is being developed as there are times when TNB cables are dug up but they do not appear on any map," he told reporters on the sidelines of a Merdeka gotong-royong programme here.

"So we need to work with the KL mayor to ensure that we have surface and underground maps of utilities," he said according to a Bernama report.

"I will leave it to the mayor (Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif) and I am certain all the (KL) MPs will give our support."

Fahmi's comments come after a sinkhole in Masjid India swallowed a 48-year-old woman yesterday.

Search and rescue operations were launched after the incident but the woman, an Indian national, has yet to be found.
