We're looking after sinkhole victim's family, says KL mayor

KUALA LUMPUR: The family of the woman swallowed by a sinkhole in Jalan Masjid India is receiving assistance, says KL Mayor Datuk Seri Paduka Maimunah Mohd Sharif.

Maimunah said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is taking care of the victim's family's accommodation and meals.

"We are also providing them with counselling," she told reporters at a press conference.

On Friday, Indian national, Vijayaletchumi, 48, fell into the sinkhole while walking in the area. She has yet to be found.

Maimunah said the police will also liaise with the Indian High Commission to extend the visas of Vijayaletchumi's family members. It has been reported that her husband and eldest son are here.

She said the family members have also been updated on the search and rescue operation.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed DBKL to meet with Vijayaletchumi's family.
