Teen motorcyclist killed in Pekan Nenas six-vehicle collision

PONTIAN: An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving six vehicles, including two motorcycles, at Km1.6 of Jalan Sinar Harapan-Belokok here today.

Four other motorists were injured and two were unharmed in the 8am accident. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Nurhakimi Mohd Rashidi.

District police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the accident involved a Toyota Fortuner sports utility vehicle, three cars (Perodua Myvi, Perodua Alza and Honda Civic) and two motorcycles.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Nurhakimi was travelling from Jalan Belokok towards Pekan Nenas, and had slowed down as a vehicle in front attempted to make a right turn.

However, another motorcyclist travelling behind him was unable to stop on time and crashed into Nurhakimi's bike.

The impact caused the victim's bike to veer into the opposite lane with incoming traffic from Pekan Nenas to Jalan Belolok.

At this point, the Toyota Fortuner driver travelling in the opposite lane could not avoid the victim and hit him head-on, throwing him into the path of a Perodua Myvi travelling in the same direction.

The SUV driver then lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Perodua Alza. The Honda Civic driver behind the Perodua Alza was unable to stop on time and crashed into its rear.

Shofee said Nurhakimi, who sustained severe head and bodily injuries, died on the spot.

Shofee said the case was investigated for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, and offenders faced an imprisonment term of between five and 10 years with a fine up to RM50,000, upon conviction.

They may also be disqualified from holding a driving licence for a minimum of five years.

He urged those who witnessed the accident to call investigating officer Inspector Aiman Faiz Jusoh at 011-26561677.
