2-mcyclists killed in six-vehicle crash near Yong Peng

BATU PAHAT: Two motorcyclists were killed in a six-vehicle accident at Km88.2 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) near Yong Peng yesterday.

The 7.30pm accident involving five motorcyclists and a car resulted in a standstill traffic stretching over 3km.

Motorcyclists Muhammad Shahrin Asmadi, 19, and Muhammad Asyraf Hussin, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other motorcyclists were rushed to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital. The car driver was unharmed.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the two motorcyclists were travelling from Ayer Hitam to Yong Peng when they lost control of their motorcycle and hit a car in the left lane.

The impact threw both motorcyclists onto the road, where they were struck by three other motorcyclists travelling in the same direction.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
